Aerith Gainsborough Graphite

Hey All,

This is my 2d Graphite drawing of Aerith Gainsborough from Final Fantasy 7 Remake/Rebirth. After putting my 120 hours into Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth, I decided I wanted to take on a new challenge Drawing this fan pic of Aerith. My goal with this one was to take a lot of time and hone my artistic eye trying to recreate something stylized with all the details of a hyper-realistic drawing. On the bottom, you can see some of the studies I did with eyes/hair to get something I liked (This didn't transfer as well with the eyes because of the scale of the full drawing, but I'm still happy with what I learned and was able to bring in.)

Most of these shots were lightly touched up by desaturating the light and brightening it overall because graphite is very hard to take pictures of when it's well lit. I also tried out using a white gel pen for white highlights (eyes/lips/metal)

Additionally, you can see a timelapse of the shading I did at the bottom to get a sense of how many passes it took me. I didn't take very consistently good photos until closer to the end so it looks a little shitty the first couple slides.

Overall this was extremely challenging as well as time consuming but I'm pretty excited with the results.

Timelapse of the shading (hand rendering?) Starting about the time I got sick of trying to make the sketch as perfect as possible.

This was the first hair study I did working with curls. this is like 50lb sketch paper so you can see it smeared everywhere. Definitely glad I did this study, by the time I got to the real thing I was much more confident!
